Lady Macbeth

In my opinion, Lady Macbeth has changed in terms of character greatly up untill this point. At the beginign of the play, she seemed a malious violent character who was driven by ambition. this can be seen by the line "and dashed the brains out." Because of this it can be implied that she is  a doppelganger character. However in more recent action, Macbeth seems to have taken over the role of the dominant and left Lady Macbeth as the more recive figure. Througout Act 3 scene 2, Lady Macbeth appears to be following the words and actions of her husband. This can be seen by the line "whats to be done?" which is replied to with "Be innosent of the knowledge." These lines show the that the leadership role has been switched. In additon, Lady Macbeth apears to reveal much more of her femininity in this scene, this can be seen from the line "Gentle my lord." This line also shows that, she herself views Maceth as the dominant character via the use of the word "Lord." In addition the line "but in them natures copy not eterne" has many connotations.

  2. I think you picked up on the detail of the quotation "gentle my lord" which could link to earlier in the play when Macbeth greats Lady Macbeth as his equal in the letter yet she refers to him as having a higher status then her. Could symbolise the begining of her down fall!

  3. Jennifer's point is interesting. I'm not sure when you call her a doppelganger character. Do you mean there are two sides to her personality?
